WhatsApp has essentially displaced SMS as the main channel for sending messages over the last decade. Apart from having billions of worldwide users, WhatsApp is seen as a non-intrusive channel for marketing, and one where you do not have to worry about the competition and algorithm changes that come with other social media platforms like Facebook or Instagram.

 Sending information about a new product or service which might be relevant to an existing customer
  Offering deals, discounts or extended subscriptions to existing customers

However, keep in mind that you do not send too many messages to your business contacts, or you might risk getting labelled as spam.
